Founded in 2004, the Bergland Township
Parks and Rec Committee's goal has been to create a park suitable for
children and adults living and visiting Bergland. With a generous
donation from the Bergland Centennial Committee, efforts were made to
raise more money and apply for a Michigan DNR Trust Fund Grant.
Unfortunately the Parks and Rec Committee was unable to obtain the grant.
The Committee decided to continue with their efforts. With over $16,000 as of January
1, 2006, the Committee plans to install a playground this coming summer.
In the summer of 2005 the Committee with the help of
the Ontonagon County Road Commission, John Korich and the donation of
sand, a beach was constructed on the shoreline of Lake Gogebic.
